In Need of a Savior

If Christians have Jesus as their Messiah, the devout locals of Mount Banahaw consider Rizal as theirs, a hero above heroes.
Rizal, with all his accomplishments, is also considered a prophet.
So why consider Rizal as Savior?

As I See It, We're All In Need of a Savior...

Perhaps, they find him just like Jesus. And wanting to have their own version of it, they placed the person of Jesus in Rizal. Perhaps, they want Jesus to be nearer, so they placed Jerusalem in Mount Banahaw. Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to criticize here or whatsoever, I'm just trying to explain what I see.

"We're all looking for a savior. Someone who'd be there with just one call. Someone who'd explain to us everything and reveal to us our identity. Someone who'd show us genuine love and compassion."

Some of us may have found that savior in us, or in a friend, or in our parents. And many of us have been lead astray more than once (or once without us knowing that it's still going on). We've been hurt a lot of times. We've been betrayed so many times (probably by our own emotions).
Haven't we all tried to redeem ourselves?

Going back to Banahaw, the locals seem to have seen the 'savior figure' in Rizal because of his wisdom, and his passion to serve his country. They hold in high esteem the passion of Rizal, who in his great love for his country, forsook the comforts of his affluent life, and died for his beloved country.

The Calling

So what do we do?

We find others who share the same beliefs with us. It's like the world is opening up its soul to few selected people, and this people try to find each other and unite in creating a new path, a new religion. Aren't most religion formed this way? One receives a calling, another receives the same calling, and then they travel the world to share their vision of the path towards eternal life. Then both of them finds out that they aren't the only people who have received that calling.

Maria Bernarda once said, “That a white dove shall descend from above and land at several chosen places to sow the seeds of change; that one day, a piece of bamboo would suddenly shoot up from the top of Banahaw from which a golden Philippine flag shall emerge, and from which a New Jerusalem similar to that of St. John’s vision would be formed.”

First, we acknowledge that we are in need of a savior greater than any human being.
Second, we share with others the revelations that come to us as we seek for that savior.

What happens next?

Is it the reunion? When one believer finds another? Perhaps. I'm not sure. I'm not exactly the person who should be saying these.

So I'm just wondering, are you looking for a savior, or are you intending to be your savior?
